'''Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology''' was named after Phillip O. Berry because he committed his life to helping the people of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and North Carolina. He was passionate about education and believing this was an opertunity for all people.
The school opened its doors in April 2002 to rising 9th and 10th graders. Berry was one of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's largest and most expensive school construction project. It is 310000 sq. ft. and it cost CMS a total of $34,410,000.00. Berry combines traditional high school education and it provides training in three academic technology clusters: Computer Science and Information Technology, Architecture Construction and Engineering Technologies, Medical Science and Biotechnology.
== Campus ==
The school was designed to look like a corporate headquarters encouraging student-teacher interaction. Berry's design integrates the curriculum; classrooms are located across from related laboratories, like geometry classrooms across from a construction lab. Berry's library is joined partnership with CMS and The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County (PLCMC). The facility provides students with access to additional computers and technology. It has 3 computer labs and more than 80 computers for public use. It also has 20 reference computer, a TV production studio, and a quiet study area for students. The school is equipped with more than 800 computers the most of any school within the district. Berry's teachers are the only ones issued laptops with wireless internet cards to aid them with training and lesson planning.

Berry's mascot is the cardnial (which is also NC state bird). Berry offers JV Football, Varsity Football, Basketball, Swimming, and Wrestling, Cross Country, golf, soccer, tennis, track, and volleyball. Berry's school colors are red. black, and yelllow.
