Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), [[English Bazar|Malda]], [[West Bengal]] was established in 2010 by [[Ministry of Human Resource Development]], [[Govt. of India]] under the mentorship of [[National Institute of Technology, Durgapur]] and in the memory of Sri [[A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury]] who had contributed immensely to societal development of the region. The Institute is located at Narayanpur in Malda, [[West Bengal]] with the bordering districts of [[Bihar]], [[Jharkhand]] and [[North Eastern states]]. Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda was established with the objective to create a multi-layered inter disciplinary and inter-sectorial efficient professional technical manpower to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. It is committed to provide best possible [[technical education]] from grass route level to higher level and to cater to the specific needs of women, school dropouts and other disadvantaged sections of society by organizing a large no of short/long term skills orientation programmes for economic upliftment and inclusive growth of society. It was formulated that the Institute, besides catering to the needs of [[formal education]] would undertake the [[non-formal education]] to prepare the skilled and qualified manpower for self-employment. Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology was a dream project of former [[Railway Minister]] [[A. B. A. Ghani Khan Choudhury]].His dream was to provide basic Engineering to the students of Malda and nearby area and states as these areas lacks in modern Education facilities and moreover students had to go to other cities to pursue Education.
GKCIET was temporarily started in 1st November 2009 at [[Power Grid Corporation of India]] TTC Campus Maliha, Malda by then [[Minister of Human Resource Development]] Sri [[Kapil Sibal]].In June 2010 admission to the Certificate Course was started in the stream of [[Electrical Engineering]],[[Mechanical Engineering]] and [[Food Technology]] with 30 students in each streams.
In the year 2012 the 2 years Diploma Module of GKCIET was inaugurated by the Former [[Union Minister of State]] for [[Ministry of Health and Family Welfare]] Shri [[Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury]] and Former [[Minister for Science and Technology]] [[Government of West Bengal]] also the Chairman of GKCIET Shri [[Abu Nasar Khan Choudhury]].These 90 students where uplifted to the Diploma Module through Vertical Mobility.
In the year 2013 the foundation stone for the 300 achers Permanent Campus of GKCIET at Narayanpur was laid by Former [[Prime Minister of India]] Dr. [[Manmohan Singh]], [[U. P. A Chairperson]] Smt. [[Sonia Gandhi]] and the Former [[Minister of Human Resource Development]] Sri [[Pallam Raju]] and also started two news new streams in Certificate Course the [[Computer Science and Engineering]] and [[Civil Engineering]].
On First of August 2014 The Former [[President of India]] [[Pranab Mukherjee]],[[Governor of West Bengal]] Sri [[Keshari Nath Tripathi]], Former [[Minister of Human Resource Development]] Smt [[Smriti Zubin Irani]] and in absence of [[Chief Minister of West Bengal]] Smt [[Mamta Banerjee]] Former [[Minister of Tourism]] [[Government of West Bengal]] Sri [[Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury]] inaugurated and the First Building Block of GkCIET Permanent Campus at Narayanpur Malda and also uplifted the 2 years Diploma Module Students to 2 years Degree (Btech) modules in [[Electrical Engineering]] ,[[Mechanical Engineering]] and [[Food Technology]].
Two new Stream [[Sericulture and Textile Engineering]] and [[Chemical Engineering]] was also started and admission were taken in the Certificate Module.
