'''André Manaylo''' painter and graphic, an outstanding representative of the universal Rusyn art.<blockquote>''„For me, the process of creating the painting - is a surge of emotions, transmitted on canvas using the oil paints, through the expressive combination of colors and textures applied by brushes, palette knives, sometimes fingers or any else - what is at hand.''

''In creating of compositions I always strive to find new forms of self-expression, where reality and playful imagination intertwine.”''</blockquote>The artist was born in a family looking back at three generations of painters. His grandfather, Fedor Manaylo was one of the founders of the Transcarpathian Art School – [[Carpathian Barbizon]], his father Ivan Manaylo was also a well-known figure of the Transcarpathian artistic world – both as a painter and a teacher.

== Studies ==
André Manaylo as a child acquired the bases of arts at his ‘family school.’ Three years he had been studying at the decorative metal-treatment faculty of the School of Applied Arts in Uzhgorod. Then he continued his studies at the faculty of painting batik at the Lviv Art Academy (Ukraine), and later at the graphics faculty of the Polygraph Academy. After this, he developed his craftsmanship at the Repin Art Academy of St. Petersburg for five years long. The masters and teachers who had tutored him, were Vladimir Mogilevtsev and Nikolai Blokhin.

In 1991 Andre married his wife with whom he studied at the School of Applied Arts.

== His art and works ==
Although his art was undeniably influenced by the works of his grandfather, Fedor Manaylo, and his father, Ivan Manaylo, too, but for an observer it also becomes obvious that André Manaylo is engaged in other problems of art. What is common is that in his paintings also intensive colors are predominant – which at the same time reflects the traditional optimistic view of the Subcarpathian School of Painting. The impact of the Lviv School comes to life in the constructive compactness and the influence of the St. Petersburg School is obvious in the academic precision of his paintings. Andre Manaylo, however, follows his own way and goes on continuously experimenting in search of his own “voice” while concentrates primarily on the strivings of the universal art of today.

=== Figurative Phase ===
In his early works at the beginning the figurative rendering was the predominant in Manaylo’s art. The perfect – from an anatomical point of view – figures of women placed into the focus of the composition, the ballet dancers in move, galloping horses striking up dust with their hooves, towns and cities, the colorful flower-pieces try to grasp the incorporeal essence of the topic while their atmosphere – in an impressionistic way – is just surmised, entrusted to the imagination of the onlooker. The idealized figures shown in a given moment of move speak about the absolute values of beauty, cheerfulness, joie de vivre. This positive way of seeing things, the easily acceptable rendering met of course the taste of the public. His canvases constitute regular parts of offer of galleries worldwide, are celebrated partakers of a number of individual and group exhibitions.

=== The Ripe Phase – the “New Course” ===
André Manaylo at the end of his forties got to a certain borderline in his art and works. Beginning with 2014 he spends more and more time with North-American, French and Italian creative-tours, resp. in his studios in these countries. Influenced by the cultural and visual impressions he experienced at these tours, he started to have radically new artistic problems on his mind. He recognized that the grasp of the aspect of a given moment from an impressionistic point of view was already a bar for his artistic development. He started passionately experimenting to learn how he could, with the means of a painter, in a purely expressionistic way, to show feelings, emotions, desires and thoughts in such a way that the public would be able to decode them without the necessity of looking for the forms of reality in them. <br /><blockquote>
</blockquote><blockquote>''„The most characteristic feature of André Manaylo’s works is vitality, energy and force which are spontaneous revelations of his temperament. This is something that an artist gets only from above. It is a gift which will always find the possibility to show itself regardless of the language of the form,” says Nikita D. Lobanov-Rostovsky, the advisor of the London Christie & Sothebey’s Auction Houses, the member of the distress committee of the New York Metropolitan Museum.''
</blockquote><blockquote>''"In the artistic works of André Manaylo images emerge from an explosion of feverish brushworks, fast and energetic. André Manaylo’s painting is personal rather than objective; in his artworks the experience and the feelings seem to leak out in the tumid and mushy brush strokes, but paradoxically they acquire an extraordinary pictorial lightness thanks to a determined and dispatched technique. The creative urge dictates the rhythm in the paintings of the Ruthenian artist; a rhythm that becomes each time more and more urgent and engaging; a rhythm capable of creating dynamic vortex of emotions, as well as evocative atmospheres that ignite of a thousand colored reflections.” (Virginia Bazzechi Ganucci Cancellieri, art critic. Florence, Italy).''</blockquote>

== Public activity ==
As a Rusyn patriot he took-on public activity in Hungary, too; he latched on to the work of the Hungarian Self-Government of the Rusyn Minority of which he was also a president in 2007-2010. His purpose in this position was till the last to keep the identity of the Rusyns which is not acknowledged in Ukraine as independent minority, live in diaspora mostly and due to this is critically endangered by assimilation. In 2007 he founded the Carpathian Cultural Association of Public Utility, and in 2010 the Pannon Világ Cultural Center. He was the publisher and editor of the Pannon Világ cultural magazine appearing in two languages, Rusyn and Hungarian, resp. he was the author of a representative volume of studies published in 2017 on the place and role of the Manajló painter’s family in the universal Rusyn culture. Beginning with 2007 he organizes systematically summer art camps named Földvári Barbizon in Balatonföldvár with the participation of professional and amateur artists either living in Carpathian Basin or stemming from there. His enthusiastic and most important supporter in this is the businessman and patron of art György Benza. In 2009 he gave rise to the International Rusyn Art Collection (Budapest, the House of the Rusyn Self-Government), and in 2009 following the traditions of the ancient Rusyn wooden church construction he designed a Greek Catholic church in Máriapócs.
