== Life and Work ==
Preusser had a classical education at Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in [[Darmstadt]], from where he graduated in 1967. Among his teachers was [[Otto Buggisch]]. The following years, he studied [[Geodesy]] at the [[Technische Universität Darmstadt]]. From 1972-1977 he served as [[Wissenschaftlicher Assistent|research assistant]] in the Department of Advanced Geodesy and Astronomy at the [[Technische Universität Berlin]]. There, he received his [[Dr.-Ing.|Engineering Doctorate]] in 1977. In his thesis, the suggested interpolation method for [[Geoid]] determination builds on the work of his doctoral supervisor [[Siegfried Heitz]]. After a short period as trainee with the office of the Senator for Construction and Housing in Berlin, he worked from 1978-1983 in the Computer Center of the Technical University Berlin. From 1983-1985 he was a member of  "Project Group Parallel Computing", which was merged into the [[Zuse Institute Berlin|Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum]]. During this time, he developed a number of numerical algorithms for the [[Interpolation]] of [[Isoline|isolines]]. That work was continued in the years 1985-1990 in the Joint Computer Center of the Berlin Max Planck Institutes at the [[Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society|Fritz Haber Institute]] under the direction of [[Elmar Zeitler]]. Preusser’s algorithms are in use worldwide in [[Computer graphics]] software.
