Preusser had a classical education at Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in [[Darmstadt]], from where he graduated in 1967.<ref name="thesis">"Ein dreidimensionales Berechnungsmodell für geodätische Punkt- und Geoidbestimmungen." In his thesis, the suggested interpolation method for [[Geoid]] determination builds on the work of his doctoral supervisor [[Siegfried Heitz]].<ref name="thesis"/> After a short period as trainee with the office of the Senator for Construction and Housing in Berlin, he worked from 1978-1983 in the Computer Center of the Technical University Berlin.
