Los Capitanes are a 7-piece Canberra based ska band. Heralded by the media as "an explosive freakshow comprised of misfits and loners," Los Capitanes have honed and sharpened a style which defies accepted ska clichés to create their very own distinctive flavour. Combining coastal dub sounds and tight suburban punk rock, Los Capitanes unique live show has paved the way for a multitude of national and international support slots including: Koolism, Gyroscope, The Porkers, The Whitlams, Area 7, The Bleeders, Regurgitator, Unpaid Debt, The Herd, Autumn to Ashes, Parkway Drive, Killing Heidi as well as British legends The Specials.
In February 2006, Los Cap recruited famed Sydney engineer Lachlan Mitchell (The Porkers, After the Fall, The Dead Walk) and Australian ska Legend Porker Pete to help record their debut album 'No Fun Intended' (Available now through Sound System Records/ MGM), since then the boys have gone from strength to strength, with two of their tracks currently enjoying spot rotation on national radio station Triple J.
Winners of CAD Music Awards Best Live Performance, Los Cap take extraordinary pride in putting everything they have into an energetic and unpredictable set. Consolidating on their increasing popularity with the all ages crowd and beginning the daunting task of winning over the ruthless Australian public, Los Caps have toured extensively playing shows in Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and virtually everywhere in-between.
The band formed in 2002, at which time most of the members were senior students at Canberra Grammar School. They are comprised of Nick Lucey (drums), Dave Rodriguez (electric guitar), Rob Lee (trombone), Kieran Smits (bass guitar), Chuck Martin (percussion), Tim Kent (vocals) and Julian Barker (Trumpet).
