Today it is used both by the ''Israeli Defense Forces'' and all over the world. ''Krav Maga'' is known for its focus on real-world situations and extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks. It was derived from street-fighting skills developed by Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler while defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia in the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his immigration to Israel, he began to provide lessons on combat training and developed the system that became known as ''Krav Maga''. It has since been refined for civilian, police and military applications.<ref>{{cite news | title=The mother of all fightbacks | date=2005-10-22 | url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/3352222/The-mother-of-all-fightbacks.html | work=[[Daily Telegraph]] | accessdate=2013-03-05}}</ref> {{multiple image | footer = GIF animations of exercising in ''Krav Maga'' in a gym (civilian application). | width = 210 | image1 = Senior Defence-1.gif | image2 = Senior Defence-7.gif }} ''Krav Maga'' has a philosophy emphasizing threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression.<ref>{{cite news | title=All change on the buses | date=1998-01-15 (contracted; show full)| title=Israeli Martial Arts Gurus Duke It Out For Real | first=Marissa | last=Brostoff | date=2008-21-31 | accessdate=2013-03-05}} * [http://www.kravmaga-ikmf.com International Krav Maga Federation] [[Category:Martial arts]] All content in the above text box is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license Version 4 and was originally sourced from https://en.wikiversity.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=1276539.
