Revision 939581 of "Polo" on enwikiversity

Polo is a sport which is played by two opposing teams of horse riders. Each team may consist of up to six players. Many people claim that the word 'Polo' is a word of Balti language which is mostly spoken by Balti people and some other people also who live in Baltistan, Ladakh, Kargil, Tibet and many other areas of Pakistan, India and China. Ground to be used for playing polo is prepared in such a way that its length is always more than twice of its width and two goal posts are erected at each end side leaving 8 to 10 metres behind these goal posts. Each polo player struggles hard on the horse back to score goals against the opposing players. A goal is scored for the team when the polo, the wooden or plastic ball, passes through the goal posts at opposite end of the polo ground. Polo sticks (millet like long sticks)are used to hit polo by the players. The specified play time (normally one hour) is spaced into halves by a 15 minute interval. The match is won by the team which scores more goals during the whole play time. Presently polo has become more organised and famous in areas/cities like Chitral, Rawalpindi, Lahore, etc.
