Revision 1993111 of "Clairton" on enwikivoyage

Clairton is a third-class city south of Pittsburgh and is home to Clairton Works, the largest coke manufacturing facility in the United States. Coke is solid carbonaceous material derived from destructive distillation of low-ash, low-sulfur bituminous coal. Clairton is a prime example of the fallen steel towns that litter the three major rivers in southwestern Pennsylvania, with its peak population in the 1950s steadily declining with the steel industry. According to the 1950 census the population was 19,652, but as of 2010 the population is only 6,796.
