维基不为自己决定什么是语言和方言是什么。 我们遵循的 [[w:ISO 639|ISO 639]] 标准. 每维基语言版本，需要有一个有效的ISO639-1或ISO639-3代码。每一个ISO639-1代码的语言“也”有一个ISO639-3代码，但不反之亦然。

If a 639-1 code is available, that one must be taken, otherwise the ISO 639-3 code. If none available, the language has no future on Wikimedia, unless you [http://sil.org/iso639-3/submit_changes.asp request a code] (which can take a lot of time, however).
