Kerstens vive e lavora ad [[Amsterdam]].

Autodidatta Kerstens è affascinato dai capolavori del ''[[Secolo d'oro olandese|Secolo d'oro olandese]]'' e fotografa sempre sua figlia Paula. Il suo stile è simile a pittori olandesi come [[Rembrandt]] e [[Vermeer]]. Kerstens si mescola proprio come loro la bellezza della vita di tutti i giorni con la grandezza della meraviglia in tutte le sue opere d’arte.
