ನನಗೊಂದು ಸಂದೇಹ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ (ಬಹುತೇಕವಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ) europe ಅನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲೂ ಯೂರೋಪ್ ಎಂದು ಬರೆಯುವ ರೂಢಿ ಇದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಯೂರೋಪ್‌ಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಐರೋಪ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲವೆ? ಅಥವ ನನ್ನ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸುಳ್ಳೆ. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತೀರ?

ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ ಶುಶ್ರುತಅವರೆ, ನಾನು ಹಿಂದೂ ಮಹಾಸಾಗರ ಎಂದು ಬರೆಯುವ ಬದಲು ಹಿಂದೂ ಮಹಾ ಸಮುದ್ರ ಎಂದು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. europeಅನ್ನು ಐರೋಪ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಕಾರಣವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ನಿಘಂಟನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬ ಜರ್ಮನ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ಬರೆದದ್ದು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಜರ್ಮನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ europe ಅನ್ನು europa ಎಂದು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಕಾರಣವಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ಊಹೆ.

::[[user:arunpksh]]ರವರ ಚರ್ಚೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಮಾತು. ಕೆಲವು ಆಂಗ್ಲಪದಗಳ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮಾನ ಪದಗಳ ಬಗೆಗೆ ನೀವು ವಿವರಣೆ ಕೇಳಿರುವಿರಿ. ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಕಾರ್ಯನೀತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಪದವು ಮೂಲತ: ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪದವಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಮೂಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪದವನ್ನೆ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುವದು ಸರಿ ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ "ಪುದುಚೆರಿ" ಈ ಮೂಲ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ಆಡಳಿತಗಾರರು Pondicherry ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇದೀಗ ಆ ಊರಿಗೆ ಪುದುಚೆರಿಯೆಂದು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಆಡಳಿತಗಾರರು ಪುನರ್ನಾಮಕರಣ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಪುದುಚೆರಿ, ಮುಂಬಯಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿಂದೂ ಮಹಾಸಾಗರ ಇಂತಹ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪದಗಳನ್ನೇ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುವದು ಸರಿಯಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯನೀತಿ ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ.

::ಆದರೆ ಯುರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಮೂಲ ಪದ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುವಾಗ ಇದು ಕಷ್ಟಕರ ಕಾರ್ಯನೀತಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಶ್ ಅಲ್ಲದ ಯುರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಪದಗಳು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಶ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆಯೇ ಆಗಿ ಬರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ ಹಾಗು ಉಚ್ಚರಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸ್ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾದ "ಪಾರಿ" ಅನ್ನು ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ಜನ "ಪಾರಿ" ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರೆ,ಆಂಗ್ಲರು "ಪ್ಯಾರಿಸ್" ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.
::ನಾವು ಭಾರತೀಯರು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಶ್ ಅನ್ನು follow ಮಾಡುವದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಸ್ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯುವದು ಸರಿಯಾಗಬಹುದು. ಅದರಂತೆ 'ಯೇಶು" ಎನ್ನುವ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಶ್ ಜನ "ಜೀಸಸ್" ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಾವೂ ಸಹ ಈಗ "ಜೀಸಸ್" ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಅಲ್ಲವೆ? ಯುರೋಪಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಲಪದವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಶ್‍ದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಚ್ಚರಿಸುವಂತೆ  "ಯುರೋಪ್" ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವದೇ ಸಾಧುವಾದದು.

ನಾವು ಇವನ್ನು infomal guidelines ಆಗಿ ಒಂದು ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದರೆ ಹೊಸ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಿಗೆ ಉಪಯೋಗವಾಗಬಹುದು ಹಾಗು ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕರಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆಂಗ್ಲ ವಿಕಿಯ [[:en:WP:NAME|Naming conventions]] ಪುಟದಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿತ ಒಂದು ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಬಹುದೆ? ಸುನಾಥ್‌ರವರೆ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪದಗಳಿಗಾದರೆ ಮೂಲ ಹೆಸರನ್ನೇ ಬಳಸೋಣ, ಆದರೆ ಇತರೆ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಶಬ್ದಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಂಗ್ಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಸರಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪದವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಪದವನ್ನು ಬಳಸೋದು ಸರಿ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪದಗಳ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗಷ್ಟೆ ನಿಂತಿರುವುದು. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ಶಬ್ದಕೋಶವನ್ನು ಬರೆದ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ಫರ್ಡಿನಾಂಡ್ ಕಿಟ್ಟಲ್‌ರವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಊಹೆ. ಈ ಮಾತು ಸುಳ್ಳಾದರೆ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಇರಲಿ. ಆದರೆ ಇದು ನಿಜವಾಗಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಕೆಲಸದ ಅಭಿಮಾನಕ್ಕಾದರೂ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪದವನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಮೇಲಾಗಿ ಎಷ್ಟೊ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಶಬ್ದಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಉದಾ: 
*ujjain - ಉಜ್ಜೈನಿ
*Delhi - ದಿಲ್ಲಿ
*bengal - ಬಂಗಾಳ
ಮತ್ತು: china - ಚೀನ <br>
ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಲವು ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಈ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪದ ಬಳಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲೂ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪದ ಬಳಸುವುದು ಉತ್ತಮವೆಂದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕಡೇಪಕ್ಷ ಆಯಾಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರಣೆ ಕೊಡೂವಾಗ ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗೂ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಬರೆಯಬಹುದು.

ಐರೋಪ ಮತ್ತು ಐರೋಪ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಪದಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ ನಿಜ. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನೇಕ ಪದಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಲಭಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಅಂತಹ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ನಾವಿಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಬಹುದು.  ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆ ಪದಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಚಾಲ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಕನ್ನಡೇತರ ನಾಮಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿ ಬಳಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಅವುಗಳ ಉಪಯೋಗವಾಗಲೀ, ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗಲೀ ಆಗುವ ಸಂಭವ ತೀರಾ ಕಮ್ಮಿ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಗಣಕ ಯಂತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊರೆಯುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಗಣಕ ಯಂತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಪರಿಣಿತಿಯಿರುವ ಲೇಖಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗುತ್ತವೆಯೇ ಹೊರತು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೂ ಇವರುಗಳು ಅಂತಹ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನಾವಿಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿರುವುದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಓದುಗರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗುವಂತಿರಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಅವು ಆದಷ್ಟೂ ಸರಳವಾಗಿರಬೇಕು. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವಂತಹ ಪದಗಳ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗಿರಬೇಕು. ಅವು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಪದಗಳ ನೇರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪದವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಚಿಂತೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಆಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಲುಪುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಓದುಗರಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆಯೆಂದು  ಯೋಚಿಸುವುದು ಮೂರ್ಖತನವಾದೀತು. ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಚಿಂತನೆಯಷ್ಟೆ.

The 2008 Board election committee announces the 2008 election process. Wikimedians will have the opportunity to elect one candidate from the Wikimedia community to serve as a representative on the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will serve a one-year term, ending in July 2009.

The voting system to be used in this election has not yet been confirmed, however voting will be by secret ballot, and confidentiality will be strictly maintained.

SPI will hold cryptographic keys and be responsible for tallying the votes and providing final vote counts to the Election Committee. SPI provided excellent help during the 2007 elections.

==The LocalisationUpdate extension has gone live==

The LocalisationUpdate extension is now enabled for all Wikimedia projects. From now on new localisations that become available in SVN will become available to your project within 24 hours. Your localisations get into SVN from [http://translatewiki.net translatewiki.net] typically within a day and at worst in two days. This is a huge improvement from the old practice where the localisations became available with new software. This could take weeks, even months.

The localisations done by our community at translatewiki.net are committed to SVN typically every day. When the system messages in English are the same as the local messages, they will now be inserted in a file and are available for use in all our projects in a timely manner

===What this means for you===
Local messages have an impact on the performance of our system. It is best when messages are as much as possible part of the system messages. In order to remove unnecessary duplication, all the messages that have a local localisation and are '''exactly''' the same as the system message will be removed.  What we ask you to do is to compare and proof read the messages in translatewiki.net and the local messages. The Wikimedia Foundation has brought together a new team of developers who are dedicated to language support. This team is to support all the languages and consequently it is not realistic to expect that the team members can provide proper support for your language. This language support team will be asked to provide us with information about their language. Such information may need to be provided either to us or on a website that we will indicate to you. Looking at a website, only to be presented with little squares is the result of a computer not having the fonts necessary to show the characters used for a language. There is a modern method of providing people with a missing font; this is done by sending a font together with the text that is to be displayed. 

The [[:wikimedia:Localisation team|Localisation team]] of the Wikimedia Foundation is working hard to finish the [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WebFonts WebFonts] functionality. This will serve you with freely licensed fonts when these fonts are not present on your system. For regular users, there will be multiple fonts to choose from or to select none at all.

At translatewiki.net, we run the latest version of the WebFonts software at all times. This allows you to get familiar with the look and feel and follow its progress. To make it easy for you, we will copy the text of the article on your language from your wiki to the Portal:Kn/Webfonts page at translatewiki. The fonts that we use are the best Freely Licensed fonts we can find. For the Indic languages this is typically the Lohit font that is used in many Linux distributions.

The agenda of the localisation team is that WebFonts will go live on Monday December 12. At the India hackathon we learned about issues with some of the fonts and several issues we were able to resolve and others resulted in the filing of bugs at Red Hat. We are looking into having a triage meeting with Red Hat engineers to assess and address any and all issues.

When there are real issues that prevent the reading of the text, we may consider to postpone the WebFonts implementation for a particular language. We are open to technical solutions that improve the usability or acceptance. Apart from that, Wikipedia exist to bring information to everybody and WebFonts allows us to increase out audience.

Dear Kannada wikipedians,

Over the past few weeks I have discussed the current state and the future of Indic wiki projects with many Indic language wikipedians - [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_-_India_Programs/Indic_Languages/Kannada/Discussions/2011 and few Kannada wikipedians have helped me get a richer understanding of Kannada community and projects].  And after discussuion with more than 10 Indic wiki communities, I have provided [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_-_India_Programs/Indic_Languages/Summary_of_initial_discussions_-_2011 the summary of discussions and my ideas about taking Indic wiki projects forward here].  During the discussion many of you have asked for clear ideas to improve the strength of the community and quality of projects.  I have been thinking about what would be most appropriate for Kannada community and I want to share some specific suggestions for Kannada wikipedia.  I am recommending these based on ideas from Kannada editors as well as learnings from other Indic communities which have relevance for Kannada.  

As of now we have around 10 active wikipedians and close to 11,000 articles for Kannada wikipedia.  I think the single most powerful way of achieving the huge potential for for Kannada wiki projects is to build its community.  Increase communication and collaboration between editors is one way of doing this since that will retain existing editors and attract more users to for Kannada wiki. Kannada community may consider working on more frequent interaction (online and face-to-face), increasing the spirit of common purpose and bonding amongst editors and last, but not least, attracting newbies.  

Below are some points that I request Kannada wiki community to consider.

As you know meetups connect us with like-minded people, build friendships, help share ideas and plan initiatives.  For small communities, there is always the feeling that we are all alone - and meetups help to correct this perception and this is a source of inspiration. We should have meetups of Kannada wikipedians anywhere and everywhere in the world where there 2-3 of you in the same town.  In the NCR area (Delhi/Gurgaon/Noida/Faridabad), please feel free to use the office in Hauz Khas for meetups.  I am not sure whether there is any Kannada wikipedian in the NCR area. If there is please let me know so that we can meet up and try to build a Kannada wiki community in Delhi also.  For other areas please plan and meetup. Physical meetings between wikipedians is very much required to grow a healthy wiki community in any indic langauge wikipedia. I will help in every possible way to support all the initiatives regarding this.

These groups often focus on a specific topic area (for example, articles related to Kannada language or a interest area like Kannada movies or regional politics or Kannada literature or global topics like medicine) or a specific kind of task (for example, expanding stub articles).  It allows editors to work with other editors - all of whom share a passion for the subject or task.  It has worked really well in many languages across India.  (For example, Oriya wikipeida has a project on "Oriya Literature", “Ollywood" and so on. Group of 2 or 3 Oriya wiki community members interested in these projects are actively collabrating on these articles to enhance it.). The idea I want to emphasis is, along with working on articles on our interest it will be nice if we could start collabrating with other community members. That will enhance our wiki editing experince and is good for the growth of community. That will help more existing users to continue in wiki for a long time.

Some suggestions for wiki projects are:
*Start a wiki project to create/expand all articles related to Kannada language
*Start a wiki project to create/expand articles about districts/villages of Karnataka and other states of India.
*Start a wiki project to expand the stubs 
*Start a wiki project to identify and remove potential copyright violated images and move the rest of the free images to commons
*Start a project on an area which 2-3 editors feel passionate about - whatever the subject might be. 

In fact if we could get to know the interest of users we could easily design various small wiki projects as is happening in English wikipedia. The point I want to emphasis is that collaboration between editors will ensure a healthy community so that we can do more programs. The best way of collaboration is doing what we all love best - editing.  So let us collaborate on what we love doing most.

Wiki workshop is the best way to attract more users to wikipedia. As we know the current 10 active editors in Kannada wiki is a very very small tiny group considering the fact that we have more than 10,000 articles to take care. We should start doing more workshops to attract more users to wiki editing. Again in Delhi, we have the required space and infrastructure so please feel free to use it whenever Kannada wikipedians require it.  For other locations if any one is interested to conduct wiki workshops please let us all know and we will work out some way of supporting for this. More important is community members need to come forward.

Use social networking sites to reach out to people (Facebook, Twitter, and many others.)  You can publicise your workshops through these sites or you can invite people to join the community or you can announce major achievements (like the exceiting stories about Kannada wiktionary, Kannada wikipedia crossing the 25,000 article count, and so on). Already many Indic wiki communities are doing this. We shall think about start using Social Networking sites effectively for Kannada wiki projects also.

Use Kannada blogs to reach out to the Kannada online community.  It would be very useful to get in touch with popular bloggers and ask them to inform their readers about Kannada Wikipedia and other wiki projects, encourage more people to consider editing and point interested people

Kannada newspapers and TV channels have mass outreach among Kannada people.  Can we establish contacts with journalists and ask for their support in covering Kannada Wikipedia.  Journalists alway look for news items that are directly relevant to their audience and something like Kannada Wikipedia crossing 25,000 articles is a perfect story.  Any further achievement of Kannada  community like when you cross the 100 active editor mark, and the 500 editor mark, when you do an offline release etc. - will all get you good media coverage.  This will help in building the community, increasing motivation of existing editors and attract new editors.


Can I request as many Kannada wikipedians to share you thoughts about these ideas.  Do you think they are the right ideas for Kannada?  If so and if not, why?  Would you suggest any alternate ideas?  If you like these ideas, which ones would you like to work on?  Is there any help you need?  Would you be interested in getting connected to other community members who might also be interested?  Please share your ideas.

The reason I am asking everyone to participate is it will help us all as a community to identify people who have similar interests and to start interacting and working closely on these interests.  The ideal outcome of this post is for the community to start planning some of these activities as a group.  There are two ways of doing this.  One is, if community members start discussing on this page and form groups interested in particular ideas. ==Medicine project==

Dear All

I am writing to share with you a very inspiring initiative regarding health and medicine articles on Wikipedia.  Crores of Wikipedia (English) readers read up about health related issues either when they or their loved ones fall ill or before or after they have consulted doctors or when they are curious about a particular disease or drug.  In fact, quite a few doctors and nurses also read up these articles to improve their knowledge.

Wikipedia's medical articles have 15-20 crore page views every month.  The top 300 articles are viewed more than 1 lakh times every month.  The challenge is that the majority of these articles are only available in English. 

This initiative (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine/Translation_task_force) has been conceptualised by WikiProject Medicine, Wikimedia Canada and very interesting organisation called [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translators_Without_Borders Translators Without Borders]. It seeks to translate a set of 80 of the most important health care articles into as many languages as possible.

Given the state of our health care system as well as the increasing readership of Indic language projects, there is huge positive impact that we can have if we participate in this initiative and have these articles in all Indic languages.  The project page (referenced above) includes an outline of the project, FAQs, useful links and a sign up for interested volunteers.

Kannada Wikipedians can join this effort by creating a wikiproject for this in Kannada wikipedia.  Remember, you don't have to be a health care professional to help out.  All you have to do is simply care.

I am really happy to inform you that few Indic languages have already signed up for this wonderful project.  Of these, 3 languages - Assamese, Tamil, and  Malayalam - have already started wiki project and started working on articles (really big comprehensive articles) related to Medicine.

New users are facing trouble while registering as Naramay allows them to type in Kannada by default. We should turn this off immediately. The recent out reach programs have been bringing new people to Kannada wikipedia and they might get away due to any such difficulties.

==On creating a Community==

As the outreach programs gather speed, I have a few suggestions:

1.	There has to be a constant dialogue on wikipaedia among the editors. A good word for a well written / major edits, pointing out politely items for improvements, volunteering tech assistance etc. 

2.	Guiding new , enthusiastic editors who are not aware of the wikipaedia rules for writing  articles ( No POVs etc).

3.	When someone puts an opinion about an article/ a query / request for help  or any anything on wikipaedia, it should be responded promptly. Currently this is glaring by its absence.

There are examples for each of these in the recent activities
Sysops need to be watching the edits regularly and carryout above functions. This will help create bonding among the editors and more and more discussions may start happening. This will gradually build community. 
This may be debated during the next  ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ

* Odia community had a great weekend between March 30 and April 2 - including 3 outreach sessions and 1 community meetup. * Wikisource is seeing increased participation across communities and there is's a [http://blog.wikimedia.in/2012/04/04/realizing-the-dreams-of-communities-3-years-6-users-1000-articles-counting-the-source-of-gujarati-wikisource/| story that was shared about Gujarati community's Wikisource] as well as an update from Shiju on a tool (DjVu) that will be useful to all Wiki librarians. ==Updates on Social Media pilot==
Greetings! Here is a [http://osdir.com/ml/general/2012-05/msg54746.html small update] on the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/India_Program/Pilot_Designs/Social_Media Social Media pilot] supported by India Program. This pilot is running on two Facebook groups for Wikipedia activities: one in English (One is [https://www.facebook.com/groups/wikipediasupport/ You can also write on Wikipedia]) and one in [https://www.facebook.com/groups/OdiaWiki/ Odia (Odia Wikipedia)]. Both of these are being piloted to see if we can explain the very basics of editing to new editors and to encourage them to make their first basic edits.  This is done You can visit these groups to see the regular editing sessions that we are conducting there. So far, we have been able to get 30 first time editors in English and 10 in Odia - all of whom have completed a few basic tasks (like creating usernames, corrected mistakes, adding references, inter-wiki links!)

Facebook is a useful way of engaging with young users because they are more comfortable there. What this means for your project:

*At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "<code>2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334</code>". See e.g. [[w:en:IPv6 address]]. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. *In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.
