lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender ജനസമൂഹങ്ങലെ മൊത്തമായി സംബോധന ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ചുരുക്കപ്പേരാണു LGBT. ഈ സമൂഹങ്ങളെ മുൻപ് സംബോധന ചെയ്യുവാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന gay കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി എന്നാ വാക്കിനു പകരം  1980കളിൽ  LGB എന്ന പദം  നിലവിൽ വരികയും , കാലാനുഗുണമായി 1990ഇൽ LGB പരിഷ്കരിച്ചു LGBT എന്നാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു . <ref>Acronyms, initialisms & abbreviations dictionary, Volume 1, Part 1uu
