Brandenburg werd in [[1952]] tot [[priester]] gewijd. In [[1974]] werd hij door [[paus Paulus VI]] benoemd tot [[hulpbisschop]] van [[Osnabrück]] en tot titelvoerend bisschop van ''Strathernia''. In [[1977]] werd hij benoemd tot bisschop van
[[Stockholm]] en in 1998 nam hij ontslag.
