Kayenta [[Tó Dínéeshzheeʼ]] is said to have come from an earlier Navajo name, recorded as ''Tye-nde'' by Father Haile in 1908. He said it meant "place where wild animals fall in" or "game pit" for catching antelope or other game. Do you have any idea about what Tye-nde could be in modern spelling? The current [[:en:Navajo language]] page names [[:en:Kayenta]] as a Navajo borrowing, so I would like to find out its origin. [[:en:Navajo language]] also says [[:en:heishe]] (shell bead) is from Navajo, but I don’t think that’s correct...I think it’s Keresan. (By the way, [[Naakaii náázééł]] is what Alfredo Yazzie said the name should be, since náázééł refers to an enemy horde like an army, while náásééł is a non-enemy swarm like grasshoppers.
