It is the historical caipital o the [[Podhale]] region. The toun is situatit in a valley beneath the [[Gorce Muntains]] featurin [[Gorce Naitional Pairk]] established in 1981, at the confluence o rivers [[Biały Dunajec (river)|Biały]] an [[Czarny Dunajec (river)|Czarny]] [[Dunajec]]. Admeenistratively, it is in [[Nowy Targ Coonty]] in the [[Lesser Poland Voivodeship]]. It wis previously in [[Nowy Sącz Voivodeship]] (1975–1998).
