Inland Connecticut have a [[humid continental climate]]. The shorline has a borderline [[humid subtropical climate]]. Counties more closer to the [[Atlantic Ocean]] face very cold [[winter]]s and very hot [[summer]]s. The city of Bridgeport, like most other areas in [[Metropolitan area|metropolitan New York]], have a humid subtropical climate under the [[Köppen Climate Classification]] system. Hartford, which is 35 miles inland, has a humid continental climate. Connecticut is a somewhat sunny state. Winters in Connecticut are known to be very cold. Average temperatures range from {{convert|38|F|C}} in the southeastern parts of Connecticut. In the northwest parts of the state, temperatures range from {{convert|29|F|C}} in the month of January. During [[hurricane|hurricane season]], [[tropical cyclone]]s rarely affect the state. Thunderstorms are more frequent during the summer, occurring on average 30 times each year.
