The first [[Europe]]an [[settler]]s of Connecticut were [[Dutch language|Dutch speaking]] people. They started a small, short-lived [[settlement]] in the location that is now the city of Hartford. At first, half of Connecticut's land was part of the [[Dutch colony]], [[New Netherland]]. The [[colony]] included much of the land between the Connecticut and [[Delaware 
rRiver]]s. The first major settlements began in the 1630s by the [[England|English]]. [[Thomas Hooker]] led a group of people from the [[Massachusetts Bay Colony]] and founded the [[Connecticut Colony]]. Other settlers from Massachusetts founded the [[Saybrook Colony]] and the [[New Haven Colony]]. Both the Connecticut and New Haven Colonies made [[document]]s of [[Fundamental Orders]].
