Fox Noggin Channel was originally created as a joint venture between [[Viacom]]'s [[Nickelodeon (TV channel)|Nickelodeon]], [[News Corporation]] and the [[Children's Television Workshop]] (now [[Sesame Workshop]]), but Sesame Workshop's interest was sold to Nickelodeon in [[2002]]. From 1999 until 2000, the channel broadcast 16 hours from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. ET/PT. From 2000 to 2001, the channel broadcast 18 hours by adding two hours to its late night schedule, with the channel now broadcasting daily from 7 a.m.-1 a.m. ET/PT. From 2001 to 2002 and from 2007 onward, the channel broadcast 24 hours a day.

From 1999 until 2002, Fox Noggin Channel was targeted at preteens. Starting in 2002, Fox Noggin Channel was now targeted at pre-schoolers, the format was changed, due to low ratings. The network takes its name from a slang term for “brain” (see [[noggin]]), reflecting its original purpose as an educational channel.
