This school was established at [[Osaka]] in 1877 by [[France|French]] [[female]] [[missionary]].<ref name="History">[http://www.shinai-u.ac.jp/outline/history.php History of Wakayama Shin-Ai Women's Junior College];retrieved 2014-9-9. {{ja icon}}</ref> The junior college was set up in 1951 with one academic department: [[English language]].

In 1956 the academic department of Child Care opened.

In 1969, the home economics department divided into two majors:
* Home Economics (changed to Life and Culture in 1990)
* Food and Nutrition

In 1994 English Communication was set up again. The last year of accepting students was 2001.

Now this junior college is the only junior college in Wakayama Prefecture.
