He began writing and recording music throughout High School and released 2 independent albums ''Future Kid'' and ''Distracted From Reality'', each in 2012. In 2013, he launched his own cyber independent record label, Future Kid Recordings, and released his third album ''12:34'', which was received well in the underground alternative and hip hop music scene. He also released the EP, ''Lost and Found'' in 2013. He signed to Kemosabe Records and released his debut studio album ''Two Three Four'' on April 8, 2014. After departing from Kemosabe, he began writing and recording for a second studio album. On April 13, 2015, it was announced that May The Third signed to Odd Future Records and released his second studio album, ''May The Third: An Album'', proceeded by the single "No More Kings", featuring recording artist Charlie Puth, which peaked at number 84 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In 2015, he also helped produce and write tracks on Tyler, the Creator's third album ''Cherry Bomb'' and Earl Sweatshirt's second album ''I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside.''

May The Third has been praised for his mixture and uses of different intelectual styles of music taking influence from Britpop and psychedelic rock music of the 1960's and 70's and applying it to 90's-inspired hip hop, new jack swing, and rap music. He also uses rap rock and nu-metal styles in his music. Artists such as Tyler, the Creator, Azalia Banks, Common, Becky G, Hoodie Allen, and Pete Wentz have praised his musical style and artistry.

The album was produced by May The Third, executive produced by Tyler, the Creator, and mastered by Vyron Dalyan Turner. The album follows-up his debut studio album, ''Two Three Four'' (2014). The album was proceeded by the lead single, "No More Kings", featuring Charlie Puth, on April 13, 2015. The singles peaked at number 84 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and at number 30 on the U.S. Mainstream Songs chart. In support of the album, he toured as a supporting act on Tyler, the Creator's 2015 Cherry Bomb Spring Tour and participated on the 2015 Van's Warped Tour.
