By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships, is a 1726 fictional satire by Jonathan Swift. The novel follows main character Lemuel Gulliver and his journey to four countries. The four countries are Lilliput, a land of little people, Brobdingnag, a land of big people, Laputa, a land of intelligent but useless people, and Houyhnhnm, a land of horses. Swift wrote the novel for adults to show that some people and governments were wrong. The story was intended to make them change. In 2010, a movie version was made starring Jack Black. Gulliver travelled because his business failed many times. Gulliver travelled in a ship because he was a trained surgeon so he helped the people on the ship. Gulliver lost his weapons and wanted to get them back. Gulliver was sent by a surgeon to go on the ship to be able to help. Gulliver didn’t want to travel but he had to because he was a surgeon and he was forced to. Gulliver travelled to 9 different places. The travel begins with a short preamble in which Gulliver gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages.
