The first festival was in 1988. Its motto was "The test and seeking of Korean(contracted; show full)tists and Spaces", it reinforced the support for artists, managed the spaces efficiently, and shed light on current independent arts which were condensed as the festival. In addition, It firstly tried "Eco-Fringe Project" to run an eco-friendly festival. It was hosted on August 11 to 27, 2011 at [[Hongdae]] area and a few more downtown [[Seoul]] with 160,000 visitors.
