He holds a bachelor in communication from the [[University of Quebec]] in [[Montreal]].

The 2010 edition of his guide won a Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. His guide is now copublished with Nadia Fournier.

Since 2007, Michel Phaneuf has suffered health issues: heart problems and [[Parkinson's disease]].
