In 1990, Smith and Young's short, ''[[Umbabarauma]]'' by [[Jorge Ben]], was the first Felix Films production to win an [[Academy Award]].

In October 1992,
 Felix Films and [[Hanna-Barbera]] announced that their companies were teaming up to co-produced and aired the first animated series for newly opened [[Cartoon Network]], when [[Scott Sassa]] hired former [[MTV]] Networks executive [[Fred Seibert]] to head Hanna-Barbera, Smith began hiring new animators at this point; six of the newcomers, including [[Genndy Tartakovsky]], [[Craig McCracken]], [[Van Partible]], [[Butch Hartman]], [[David Feiss]], [[Seth MacFarlane]], [[Rob Renzetti]] and [[Paul Rudish]].
