Discler was born the son of a [[cigar]] and colonial goods [[merchant]]. From 1885 to 1894, he studied at the [[Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe]], where he was a master student of [[Gustav Schönleber]] from 1888. During his studies, he completed his [[military service]] as a one-year volunteer in 1887. In 1890, he undertook a trip to the Netherlands.
