After his birth, his father moved back to his hometown [[Immenstadt]]. His younger brother [[Theo Bechteler]] also pursued an artistic career. Bechteler learned [[woodturning]] from his father, but painted avidly in his free time. He exhibited his first paintings in his parents' business from 1912 and the following years. During a stay in Paris, he met the [[Sculpture|sculptress]] Ruth Zachrisson, married her and moved with her to Sweden in 1933. Bechteler died in Mindelheim at the age of 93. == Artistic career == Bechteler was admitted to the [[Academy of Fine Arts, Munich]] in 1920.
