[[Gandhi]] led the '''Salt March''' or '''Dandi March''' starting on March 12, 1930 From Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi near Navsari. The march was a protest against the salt tax by British government. The village of Dandi was on the seacoast. Marchers took a handful of salt themselves from shore that was not taxed. They then announced that they had broken the law. This was a major, but peaceful challenge against Britain.
