The 2012 Atlantic hurricane season is the time from June 1 to November 30, 2012 when hurricanes officially form in the Atlantic Ocean. Storms sometimes form before and after these dates but most storms form during the season. The 2012 season began early and was followed by a period of inactivity. The 2012 season is currently active.
Tropical Storm Alberto and Tropical Storm Beryl both developed several days before the official start of the season. This was last seen in the 1908 Atlantic hurricane season. When Tropical Storm Debby formed on June 23, it was the first time ever that four storms formed before July since record keeping began in 1851. However, no further storms formed in July. This ended in August with the formation of five tropical systems, including hurricanes Ernesto and Gordon.
The 2012 season tropical cyclones have affected land. Five out of nine of the named storms made landfall. Landfalling storms have affected Florida, Mexico, Central America, Cuba, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Lesser Antilles, Bermuda, and The Azores.
