Biography
Henry was born in County Durham in 1902, one of seven children, two sisters and four brothers. In 1904, the family moved to a village near Sunderland, where his father was an official at the local mine. After leaving school Henry spent time sailing the seven seas in the Merchant Navy. On his last epic voyage Henry saw the world, sailing to America, the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and down the coast of South America to Peru, Chile and the Strait of Magallanes, across to South Africa, round the Cape of Horn, across the Indian Ocean to Java, which is now Indonesia, back across the Indian Ocean, through the Suez Canal, across the Mediterranean and back to Glasgow.

He died in 2010 at 107 or 108 years old.
