Revision 4570005 of "Salt March" on simplewiki

[[Gandhi]] led the '''Salt March''' or '''Dandi March''' starting on March 12, 1930 From Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi near Navsari. The march was a protest against the salt tax by British government. The village of Dandi was on the seacoast. The Indians were not happy with the increasing taxes on basic necessities, such as salt, and wanted to revolt. Marchers took a handful of salt themselves from shore that was not taxed. They then announced that they had broken the law. This was a major, but peaceful challenge against Britain.
