'''Walter Conz''' (27 July 1872 in [[Stuttgart]] - 13 May 1947 in {{Ill|Überlingen|en}}) was a German painter and [[Etching|etcher]]. He was a professor at the {{Ill|Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe|en}}.

== Life ==
Walter Conz studied from 1890 at the {{Ill|State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart|en}} with {{Ill|Jakob Grünenwald|en}} and from 1891 to 1898 at the academy in Karlsruhe with [[Ernst Schurth]], {{Ill|Caspar Ritter|en}}, {{Ill|Gustav Schönleber|en}} and {{Ill|Leopold Graf von Kalckreuth|en}}. He also attended Schönleber's and von Kalckreuth's [[master class]]es. At the same time he studied [[etching]] techniques with [[Wilhelm Krauskopf]].

From 1902, he was a professor and head of the etching class at the academy of arts in Karlsruhe and until 1918 also teacher at the {{Ill|Malerinnenschule Karlsruhe|de}}. That same year, he started the cooperation with the {{Ill|Staatliche Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe|de}}. He was a grand master of etching techniques. The artist achieved particular success in the field of [[landscape]]s, where he preferred to create simple motifs, which he transformed into clear compositions. One of his master students was {{Ill|Wilhelm Hempfing|en}}. Conz retired in 1933 and moved to Überlingen on [[Lake Constance]] in 1935, where he died in 1947 at age 74.
