== Life ==
Lorenz studied [[art history]] and [[journalism]] at the [[Free University of Berlin]]. In his research and publications, he first dealt with the history of [[advertising]], especially with old collector's pictures and the artists who designed such pictures; the result is the monograph ''Reklamekunst um 1900''<ref>[https://www.worldcat.org/title/reklamekunst-um-1900-kunstlerlexikon-fur-sammelbilder/oclc/231864378&referer=brief_results ''Reklamekunst um 1900 Künstlerlexikon für Sammelbilder''] on WorldCat</ref>. In collaboration with the {{Ill|Museum Europäischer Kulturen|en}} in Berlin, he developed [[exhibition]]s on this subject. This led to extensive research on lesser-known or forgotten visual artists, especially of the first half of the 20th century. This include Jewish artists (for example David Friedmann) or artists from the circle of {{Ill|Gerhart Hauptmann|en}} ({{Ill|Josef Block|en}}, [[Johannes Maximilian Avenarius]]). His best-known work is ''Künstlerspuren in Berlin'' (Artists' Traces in Berlin), a complete overview of creative and memorial places of visual artists in Berlin from the [[Baroque]] period to the present day.
