== Life ==
From 1906 to 1910, Burmann trained as a painter in {{Ill|Heinrich Repke|en}}'s [[studio]]. This was followed from 1909 to 1912 by years of study at the [[Kunstakademie Düsseldorf]] and from 1910 to 1914 with the history and church painter [[Heinrich Nüttgens]] (1866–1951). With him, he learnt the techniques of [[stained glass]] and [[mural]]. After attending the academy in Düsseldorf and Munich, where he studied under [[Heinrich Knirr]], study trips took him to Italy, France, Belgium and Lithuania. In 1926, he became a professor at the [[Kaliningrad]] Academy of Art and led a [[master class]] for ten years. One of his students in 1931/1932 was {{Ill|Hubert Berke|en}}.

Burmann was a member of the {{Ill|Deutscher Künstlerbund|en}}. During the National Socialist era, Burmann's painting ''Blick aufs Meer'' (View of the Sea) was exhibited at the {{Ill|Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung|en}} in 1939 and purchased by [[Adolf Hitler]] for 1,800 [[Reichsmark]].
