Description
The painting is part of the Divisionism art movement. It shows a small beach in the village of Lierna on Lake Como, in Via Roma. This is where Pliny the Younger lived in ancient times. de Dragon painted it outside. He was standing on a terrace where he could see the beach. The house was called Villa Plinii and people could see Bellagio from it. In the spring of 1887, Grubicy de Dragon was Antonio and Luisa Violini's guest for the first time in Fiumelatte, a village on the border of Lierna mentioned by Leonardo da Vinci as "fiumelaccio" in the Codex Atlanticus. He would go for walks and he was impressed by Lierna. He dedicated many works to her. Grubicy De Dragon then stayed frequently in Lierna where he painted Fishing for Agons in Lierna, 1893, Cultural Heritage,<ref> Beni Culturali Lombardia, Milano (MI), Civiche Raccolte Grafiche e Fotografiche.
