Born October 1 1935 on Walton on Thames, Surrey, England. her birth name was Julia Elizabeth Wells, until her mother divorced Ted Wells for Ted Andrews(whom she hated). when she was 15, she went to a party and met her really biological father for the first time, unknowing her first father wasn't her real one. she never really had a relationship with her bio dad though. when she was about 5 her stepdad, called Pop discovered her "freak, thin white" voice, that made dogs come from miles away. once she had been given basic singing lessons she joined her stepdad and mothers act and from their original billing as “Ted and Barbara Andrews—with Julie (in small letters underneath),” it had now become “Julie Andrews—with Ted and Barbara". then at age 11, she had jobs like a radio show called Education Archie, starred in Starlight Roof, Little Red Riding Hood, Humpty Dumpty, etc.
At one performance of Humpty Dumpty, a group of boys watched and one of them, was Tony Walton, her future first husband(they divorced but are still really really close friends). She then came to America to be on Broadway in first, The Boyfriend(1954; Sandy Wilson), then My Fair Lady(1956; Lerner & Loewe), and Camelot(1960; Lerner & Loewe). Walt Disney watched Camelot and though Julie was the perfect role for his upcoming film Mary Poppins and asked her to star. She turned down the role at first, due to her pregnancy(with Tony Walton), but Walt insisted and said they would wait for her. She gave birth to Emma Walton(now Walton-Hamilton) on November 27, 1962. Julie and Tony flew to Los Angeles and began work on Mary Poppins.
She was never asked to play Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady which she whom created on Broadway, because she wasn't movie star famous yet, so Audrey Hepburn was granted the part. Julie won the Oscar for Best Actress, and then immediately made a small B&W film opposite James Garner, called The Americanization of Emily. The following year after Mary Poppins, she made the hills come alive as Maria Von Trapp, and then made her way to "legend", with a million more films. She divorced Tony after Sound of Music, and married legendary director of Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Pink Panther series; Blake Edwards(a 42 year marriage until his death due to pneumonia complications in 2010). They made several movies together including Darling Lili, Victor Victoria, Tamarind Seed, etc. Blake had two children from his first marrige, Jennifer and Geoffrey, Julie had Emma, and together they adopted two Vietnamese children, Amy and Joanna. In 1997 she had surgery on her throat for non-cancerous nodules, and permanently damaged her incredible 4 octave voice. From then she made a few movies, most notably the Princess Diaries series, Shrek, Despicable Me, and Tooth Fairy. She now co-authors children's books with her daughter Emma
