Revision 23636 of "WT:Articles for creation/Toy Soldier" on tswiki== TS: Toy Soldier (Street Artist) == TS also known as Toy Soldier is a Los Angeles, CA. based artist. TS has been creating a wide range of artwork and in a variety of mediums, under different aliases since the early 1990's. And recently has taken on the TS alias in order to create a new series of urban artwork. The "toy soldier" figure that is seen or hidden within almost all of the artwork, became the trademark based on the death of a dear friend. The soldier symbol emerged from the idea that we are all soldiers in this world - just trying and fighting to live one more day. Striving to achieve our desires, goals, and purpose in this life. Yet as a soldier... one is not an individual as much as part of a larger body of individuals and works under the goal and leadership of One greater then themselves. These goals are for peace, love, kindness, generosity, compassion, and the benefit of others, and in NO WAY promote violence or malice to anyone. TS has traveled the world and participated in humanitarian efforts in many different countries over many years -- Wishing now to use the artwork that is created to help support people in need. Much of the artwork TS creates is from repurposed materials -- Objects that are found along the sides of the roads, or thrown out. Repurposing materials gives the object a second life, and allows something to change - to find a new purpose/ value. This is rather symbolic of the humanitarian efforts. The idea of helping an individual transition from a place of need – changed, transformed and re-established into a place that they can see how they might help others. The artwork created often has a short life span on the streets, because TS prefers to attempt to avoid vandalism that is permanent - so uses chalk sprays on walls that will fade away, or paintings on found objects and places them on the streets. -- While this makes the artwork very temporary, it is rather symbolic of how short life is and the limited time we have to create positive change in our society. The identity, nationality, and gender of TS has not become public knowledge as of yet.
