'''Wikidata''' heeft als doel om een vrije [[:nl:Kennisbank|kennisbank]] over de wereld te creëren, die zowel door mensen als machines kan worden gelezen en bewerkt. De gegevens zullen beschikbaar zijn in alle talen van de Wikimedia-projecten en het project verleent een centrale toegang op dezelfde wijze als Wikimedia Commons dit doet voor multimedia-bestanden. Wikidata is voorgesteld als een nieuw project, dat door Wikimedia wordt beheerd en onderhouden.

De oorspronkelijke ontwikkeling wordt gefinancieerd door een gulle subsidie van het [http://www.ai-squared.org/ Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence] <nowiki>[ai]</nowiki><sup>2</sup>, de [http://www.moore.org/ Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation] en [http://www.google.com Google, Inc.]

We are working on 3 major things:
# Centralising language links
# Providing a central place for infobox data for all Wikipedias
# Creating and updating list articles based on data in Wikidata

==  Status and timeline  ==

We are posting regular summaries of the activities around Wikidata on [[Wikidata:Status updates|Status updates]].

The current status and timeplan for Wikidata is:

* The Wikidata development team started working on the technical proposal in April 2012. Some had already started in March, preparing the work.
* The development team is presenting previews to engage the community in the development; the public demo launched in May.
* The Wikidata development team had a demo and heavily attended presentations at Wikimania 2012.
* The Wikidata development team launched the language links features in October 2012.
* The Wikidata development team aims to have ways to input and browse data available for infoboxes by December 2012 / January 2013.
* The initial development for Wikidata is planned for one year: April 2012 – March 2013.
