This presentation and discussion is about the democratic structures of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.

While some [[:en:Jimmy Wales#Role|"benevolent dictator", "constitutional monarch" or "spiritual leader"]] once declared that Wikipedia should be "[https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-January/018735.html not an experiment in democracy]", there a very many structures that have developed within and by the contributors towards democratic participation. Some reasonable arguments even state that "[[:en:Wikipedia:Of course it's voting|of course consenus is voting]]", too.

The [[:en:WP:WikiProject Democracy|WikiProject Democracy]] lists a lot of possibilities for everyone around the world to vote, elect and discuss. Regarding the recent [[:en:Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2015-12-30/News and notes|ousting]] of a community-elected member from the WMF [[m:Board of Tustees|Board of Tustees]] (the highest ruling organ in the Wikiverse) and the highly emotional discussions about, we as contributors always face the question: do we feel represented by the institutions and persons with decisive powers, or do we feel a need for change? Facing a world that keeps during the last milleniums, centuries and still decades always searching for better ways how to cooperate and organise, the global "collaboration" project Wikipedia is seen as one of the biggest and most important according to "(self)-controlled swarm intelligence".
