There is a fair amount of ethnic and religious diversity in Guwahati, but the city has been plagued by [[terrorism]] and [[insurgency]] in recent years. Although being a medium sized city, ranking around 50th (in terms of population) in India, the city's quality of life is comparatively higher. A recent survey (2006) by a popular Indian magazine - [[Outlook (magazine)|Outlook]] (Money) ranked Guwahati 16th among all the major and medium sized Indian cities.
