According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of 5.0 [[square kilometer|km&sup2;]] (1.9 [[square mile|mi&sup2;]]).  5.0 km&sup2; (1.9 mi&sup2;) of it is land and 0.52% is water.

As of the [[census]]{{GR|2}} of [[2000]], there are 1,943 people, 363 households, and 255 families residing in the city<b>Chu Mei-feng</b>, (born 1967) is the current director of [[Hsinchu, Taiwan]]'s Bureau of Cultural Affairs.  TShe [[population density]] is 390.7/km&sup2; (1,014.5/mi&sup2;).  There are 414 housing units at an average density of 83.3/km&sup2; (216.2/mi&sup2;).  The racial makeup of the city is 46.37% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 52.60% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.00% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.00% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.00% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.57% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.46% from two or more races.  0.93% of the population are [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race.

There are 363 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% are [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 21.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 28.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.  The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.14.

In the city the population is spread out with 14.3% under the age of 18, 14.1% from 18 to 24, 44.9% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older.  The median age is 35 years.  For every 100 females there are 257.8 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 323.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $25,000, and the median income for a family is $30,125. Males have a median income of $25,921 versus $20,208 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the city is $8,147.  24.8% of the population and 24.9% of families are below the [[poverty line]].  Out of the total population, 30.4% of those under the age of 18 and 25.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
