==Early years==
Herbert was born in [[South London]] in March 1974 and began his [[martial arts]] training in 1984 under 
local club instructor Christopher Iron as part of the ISK association of Sensei Pauline Laville Bindra (8th ''dan''). It was dthe tutelage of a local club instructor. During the mid-1990s that Herberthe became a student of Master Enoeda at his Marshall Street dojo''[[dojo]]'' in the [[Soho]] district of London.

==Competition==
As a competitor, Herbert was involved in tournament Karate for 19 years, with ten of those spent as a full England and Great Britain international. During this period he represented his country at 18 major international championships, amongst them seven JKA Europeans and the 2004 JKA World Cup in Tokyo, Japan.
