Eragon decides to travels to Gil'ead after [[Brom]]'s death, where he can hoping to contact the [[Varden]] and futhercontinue his pursueit of the [[Ra'zac]].

While Eragon is in Gil'ead, however, he is captured by [[Galbatorix]]'s soldiers. However, he then escapes and rescues the elf he had scryed earlier (who turned out to be [[Ary; he is detained in the same prison as the elf he had scryed earlier. With the help of [[Murtagh]] and [[Saphira]])., Eragon is reunited with [[Murtagh]], but he runs into and fights [[Durza]].escapes and rescues the elf ([[Arya Dröttningu|Arya]]). Before they are safely away, they encounter a [[Shade]], [[Durza]]; Eragon fights a losing fight with it until Murtagh apparently kills Durzait with an arrow, and they escape with the elf.
