<p>I'm a 29-year old resident of [[Orange County, New York]], and my screen name comes from the angel [[Cassiel|Kafziel]], the angel of solitude. I've been contributing to Wikipedia since June 2005. 

<p>I served as an Arabic linguist in the United States Marine Corps from 1995 to 1999. I'm a graduate of the Defense Language Institute and I was stationed at [[Radio Battalion|2nd Radio Bn]], and aboard the [[USS Kearsarge (LHD-3)|USS Kearsarge]] with the [[Marine expeditionary unit|26 MEU]]. I was attached to Lima Company, [[3rd Battalion 8th Marines|3/8]] in [[Kosovo War|Kosovo]] as a part-time sigint operator and full-time grunt; nobody speaks Arabic in Kosovo, so my linguistic talents (or lack thereof) were completely wasted. Life's a bitch. <p>I'm currently a business student and a refugee from the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cubicle_farm.jpg cubicle farm]. My main Wikipedia category interests include movies, classic literature, and politics, but I like to surf around on random pages, too. As you can see below, some of the things I work on are useful, interesting articles, some are behind-the-scenes things, and some of them couldn't possibly be more trivial. I'm all over the place. *I recently decided to focus more of my Wiki-time on creating articles for places near me that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. My main focuses are [[List of Registered Historic Places in Orange County, New York|Orange]] and [[List of Registered Historic Places in Rockland County, New York|Rockland]] Counties, and I will be adding photos over the next several weeks as weather and time allow. 
* Because I know a thing or two about the subject, I sometimes work on USMC and military history-related articles. I'm especially interested in the history of military memorials.
* I'm a big fan of [[Douglas Preston]] and [[Lincoln Child]]'s books. I also love [[Sherlock Holmes]] (anything by [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle|Doyle]], actually), [[Nero Wolfe]], most [[Jules Verne]], [[Hercule Poirot]], [[Stephen King]]'s stuff from back when he was still good, [[Caleb Carr]]'s historical fiction, and nonfiction on [[Freemasonry]] and modern politics. 
* I smoke [[Camel (cigarette)|Camels]] and drink [[Rolling Rock]], [[Jim Beam]], and [[Fuller, Smith and Turner|Fuller's London Pride]] (when I can get it).

==Wiki Philosophies==

I believe Third Opinion, Articles for Deletion, Featured Article Candidates, and Requested Moves, although they are all important to Wikipedia, should be taken in small doses. Wikipedians who spend all their time lurking around AfD, or just waiting to pounce on the newest FAC, are bound to become embittered by the process, self-important, and uncivil. Everyone needs an outlet for peaceful creativity, not just criticism, destruction, and arguing. Roam Wikipedia. See the sights. There are some cool people and some cool pages just waiting for you, and it doesn't always have to be a battle.

Although I believe in [[Wikipedia:Assume good faith|assuming good intentions]], it may become clear to me that a user's intentions are '''not''' good. As the guideline says, '''"there's a difference between assuming good faith and ignoring bad actions."''' I don't need to "assume" anything if I have facts to the contrary right in front of me. Unlike a lot of vandalism patrollers, though, I always try to take the time to leave warnings on talk pages and/or explain what the issue is. I like to think that sometimes that leads new users to a better understanding of Wikipedia policy. I've seen firsthand how a good conversation can change a vandal into a quality editor.

Like anyone, I have certain pet peeves. Here are a few:
*People who think an article is too "U.S.-centric" or "Western-centric" or what have you, and rather than adding information on other places to balance it out, simply delete the information they don't like. If you think the article about Baseball should have a section on how it's played in Outer Mongolia, then find a source and put it in. If you can't, or don't feel like it, then too bad.
*Non-native English speakers who absolutely refuse to admit when their English is less than stellar. They'll argue until they're blue in the face that their choice of words in a particular passage is best, despite numerous opinions to the contrary. I have, on occasion, contributed at the Arabic Wikipedia. I would never dream of correcting someone's grammar there, though, because I know there are subtleties in every language that non-natives will never fully master.
*People who try to use their "credentials", rather than solid reasoning, to win arguments. A person in a chat room claiming to be a 36DD supermodel could just as easily be&mdash;in fact, is ''more likely'' to be&mdash;a 45-year-old guy with a bald spot and a beer gut. By the same token, a person on Wikipedia claiming to be a PhD, a college professor, or a well-known author, is more likely to be a high school kid with delusions of maturity. If credentials are all you have, then the Internet is no place for you.
*Vandals and instigators who throw WP:CIVIL, WP:BITE, or WP:NPA at any editor who dares to warn them about their behavior. Warnings&mdash;especially substituted templates of warnings&mdash;are there for a reason. If you got one from me (or any other reasonable editor), chances are good that you deserved it. If you're willing to explain yourself, I may remove it. While we're on the subject of people being overly defensive, ''please'' don't drag out the old saw about how there's no such thing as a neutral point of view because everyone has past experiences that dictate their beliefs, etc. Everyone has heard it, and nobody is buying it. 
*Editors who argue and argue and argue until faced with a fact they can't refute, and then simply leave the conversation or change the subject. Why is it so hard for people on the Internet to say, "I stand corrected" or [gasp!] "I'm sorry"? I see them editing afterwards, so I know they haven't left the project or committed seppuku out of shame. Why can't they suck it up and apologize? If pride gets the better of you on Wikipedia, you're in for a hell of a time in real life. 

These issues rarely get the better of me, but it's a constant struggle. If I've offended you through words or deeds, and you see yourself on this list (be honest) then at least you can take some small comfort in the fact that it's nothing personal; you just fit a certain stereotype, and I was having a bad day. I try to take Wikibreaks when I feel that sort of thing happening, but if I failed to do so please don't hesitate to leave me a message and I will gladly discuss my transgression.
