By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships''''', is a 1726 [[fiction]]al [[satire]] by [[Jonathan Swift]]. The novel follows main character Lemuel Gulliver a(contracted; show full)ion. This edition had an added piece by Swift, ''A letter from Capt. Gulliver to his Cousin Sympson'', which complained of Motte's alterations to the original text, saying he had so much altered it that "I do hardly know mine own work" and repudiating all of Motte's changes as well as all the keys, libels, parodies, second parts and continuations that had appeared in the intervening years. This letter now forms part of many standard texts his first voyage.

Gulliver 
travelled because his business failed many times. He travelled in a ship because he was a trained surgeon so he helped the people on the ship. Gulliver lost his weapons and wanted to get them back. He was sent by a surgeon to go on the ship to be able to help. Gulliver didn’t want to travel but he had to because he was a surgeon and he was forced to. Gulliver travelled to 9 different places. The travel begins with a short preamble in which  [[Lemuel Gulliver|Gulliver]] gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages.  Gulliver loved his wife but loved the sea more.
