The '''Mekan''' (spelled Maken too) are a caste, or clan of Jat [http://www.jatland.com/home/Gotras/M] and are claimed to ancest from [[Rajput]]s  mostly converted to [[Islam]], around the 12th or 13th century AD. They are mostly settled in the [[Sargodha District]] of the [[Punjab (Pakistan)]].
Whereas, the people of mekan caste in Baluchistan are considered a sub-branch of Machi(also spelled as [Mochi]), though there is no such claim in any historical books but many of them admit this fact by themselves that they belong to Machi caste and are from the Shemir's (also spelled as Sheemir) Jamot,in their historical books has proven that they have come from Punjab before partition of Pakistan, they have one village  neration .
They have been slaves of Baluchs for a long period of time in Baluchistan ar to "Bhaag nari" most of them are farmer and they are very hard worker.
