== Life ==
(contracted; show full)exclusively to portraiture with portraits of numerous aristocratic personalities and became known above all for his portraits of artists, including the portraits of the painters Peter Janssen and Eduard Bendemann (1884, in the Berlin National Gallery) and {{Ill|Eduard von Gebhardt|en}} (1886, in the Düsseldorf Gallery) and the engraver {{Ill|Carl Ernst Forberg|en}}. His style was originally in imitation of the Dutch masters of the 17th century, later he worked more impressionistically.
