Vi eble pensus, ke preuntepreni alumeton sur la strato estas simpla afero. Sed iu ajn homo, kiu provis tion fari, klarigus al vi, ke tio ne simplas, kaj ĵurus je la vereco de mia sperto de la hieraŭa vespero.

Mi starantis sur la stratangulo kun cigaro, kiun mi volis bruligi. Mi ne havis alumeton. Mi atendis, ĝis deca, ordinaraspekta homo venis. Tiam mi diris: 

"Pardonu, sinjoro; ĉu vi povus prunti al mi alumeton?"

I saw that the man was getting excited about it. "Well, never mind," I protested; "if that isn't the waistcoat that you generally--why, it doesn't matter."
