On November 11, 2015, the band announced that they would be releasing their single, titled "Parallels", along with the announcement of their ninth studio album and its details. On November 13, the band announced that ''Parallels'' would be released through Roadrunner Records on March 4, 2016. On November 16, the band announced a 2016 world tour with X Ambassadors and Awolnation.

According to The Signs' percussionist Brent Gregory, the album is the band's most diverse and richest-sounding album to date. The album's lead single, "Parallels", was critically acclaimed and praised for its melodic uses of hard rock and post-hardcore.
